What is marine navigation?

How do you know as a sailor that your luxury yacht is on course? Navigation is the art of getting where you want to go. In other words, marine navigation is any skill or study that involves the determination of position and direction when your at sea.

Traditionally, people have developed methods and designed tools for navigation. Using the stars, a compass, time and natural references. Nowadays GPS (Global Positioning System) is used to determine your position anywhere on earth.
