Yacht - Future Helm station

Updated: Sep 21, 2021

Simple, clean and elegant.

That’s how we at Marinminds picture a dashboard at the helm station of a luxurious 55ft yacht. An easy to operate marine electronic system: one throttle; one wheel and one screen. So our search starts for the best solutions.

Luxury yacht

The system has to meet our three main requirements.

First, the system should include all electronics onboard into one screen. I do not want to switch between different operating systems, switch between UI or consoles on the dashboard. Second, the system has to be seamlessly integrated onboard, most preferably match the design of my yacht. Last, operation must be intuitive and easy, I have no time to read the manual.

Maritime Electronics

CZone & Raymarine. Raymarine is one of the leading marine electronic suppliers in the world. Their primary product is visual navigation systems, they also offer radar systems and communications and even some autopilot functions like ‘assisted docking’. All separate systems, that’s not what I’m looking for. However, Raymarine offers a system in collaboration with CZone. One display, replacing traditional switch and fuse panels, simple installation onboard and the system can be customized. Maybe a good option.

Simrad, another leader in the supply of marine navigation, radar, communications and fishfinding systems. It seems their autopilot function only allows to set a course, which is a bit disappointing. With Simrad Command they also offer fully integrated boat solutions. Their multifunctional display solution seems ok. It offers navigation functions and also monitoring and control of the boats key processes and systems, which also seems ok. Not spectacular and still not everything I hoped for.

Garmin Marine. The Garmin brand appeals to me personally, because of their wearables and technology for outdoor and sports activities. They also provide chartplotters, radar and communications for yachts, but seem specialized in providing fishfinding technologies. Furthermore, I cannot find any personalized and/or integration options, to bad. What draws my attention is Garmins ‘Active captain’ all-in-one application which can sync with the chart plotter. Plan your next trip at home and update all charts and maps at any time. It seems intuitive and easy to operate. However that only solves part of my problems.

Summary, all of the above have their own appealing features, but we want ‘one solution’. If you are also searching for the perfect solution for your luxurious yacht, then visit www.marinminds.com
